LET'S GET TO KNOW EACH OTHER, SHALL WE?
Breakaway is a non-denominational bible study located on the campus of Texas A&M University. Over the last three decades, hundreds of thousands of students have learned God's Word and encountered God's presence here.
Below you'll find more about who we are and where we come from. If you need help with anything, don't hesitate to reach out.

Tuesdays at 9PM during the school year. Most weeks you will find us in Reed Arena. Check the schedule here.
Breakaway is for any and every college student, regardless of religious background. While Texas A&M, Blinn, and Rellis are the schools most represented, many students from other campuses make the drive to join us every week. There is no dress code, and we don't check ID's at the door. Short answer: you are invited.
Breakaway is completely free to attend because of the generosity of our donors. The only time we ask students to consider giving is during Shalom Project, our annual campaign benefitting relief and missions organizations around the globe.

Absolutely. Every semester we accept applications to join one of our volunteer teams. Learn more here.
Most Tuesdays it is our Executive Director, Brian McCormack who teaches the Bible. All guest speakers are trusted voices who align with Breakaway's beliefs.
Live stream is available every Tuesday via YouTube and Facebook. If you a part of a group out of town that watches Breakaway together or uses Breakaway messages as curriculum, let us know -- we want to know who you are!

What We Believe
What We
Believe
We're a gospel-centered community that celebrates the life, death, resurrection, and teachings of Jesus. We affirm the historic Nicene Creed and feel closely aligned with the beliefs outlined in The Lausanne Covenant.
The one and only true God exists eternally in three persons; God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Spirit. We call this mystery the Trinity. God created everything and everyone for his glory — He is both infinitely powerful (sovereign over all things) and intimately personal (pursues us for relationship).
Deuteronomy 6:4; Isaiah 45:5-6, Isaiah 46:9-10; John 17:3; 1 Corinthians 8:4-6; 1 Timothy 2:5; Genesis 1:26; Psalm 45:6-7; Psalm 110:1; Matthew 3:13-17; Matthew 28:17-20; 1 Corinthians 12:4-6
All people are created in the image of God, have dignity and worth from the moment of conception, and are worthy of respect, compassion, and protection. God created humans male and female, equal yet distinct, to reflect God’s image together. Marriage is an institution created by God in which one male and one female are united, is the designed context for all sexual activity, and is meant to symbolize Christ’s love for the Church.
Genesis 1:26-27, 2:24, 5:2; Exodus 20:14; Proverbs 5:15-18; Ephesians 5:25-32; James 3:9-10; Hebrews 13:4
Even though we were created in God’s very image, due to the entrance of sin into the world through Adam and Eve, all people are born in a state of spiritual brokenness. We prove this to be true with our tendency to rebel against God and his intent for our lives. Sin is the root of every problem in the world, affecting all people and even creation itself. The deserved penalty for sin is death, and without God stepping in to help, man is helpless in this state of guilt and brokenness, separated from God.
Genesis 6:5; Psalm 51:5; Jeremiah 17:9; Romans 3:23; 5:8, 12-21; 7:18; Ephesians 2:1-3, Genesis 2:15-17; Genesis 3:19; Romans 5:12; 6:23; James 1:14-15
The Gospel is the good news that through his death on the cross in our place and resurrection from the grave, Jesus, the sinless son of God, saves, sustains, sanctifies and satisfies broken people like us. This only comes to pass by grace, through faith, completely apart from works. We cannot earn our rescue — it is a free gift. When we receive that gift by trusting Jesus, we are forgiven and cleansed of our sins and given Christ’s perfect righteousness.
John 1:29; 10:1-18; Romans 5:8; 1 Corinthians 15:1-4; 2 Corinthians 5:21; Galatians 1:4; 1 Peter 3:18
The church is not a building, event, or institution — it is God’s family, made up of all those who have trusted in Jesus, had their sins forgiven and have been made new by the power of the Holy Spirit.
Matthew 16:15-19; Acts 2:41-42, 47; 5:11-14; 6:3-6; 14:23,27; 15:1-30; 16:5; 20:17-32; I Corinthians 3:16; 7:17; 9:13-14; 12:1-31; Colossians 1:18; I Timothy 3:1-15; 4:14; Titus 1:5-9;I Peter 5:1-4; Revelation 2-3; 21:2-3
The Holy Spirit opens our ears to hear God’s truth, brings conviction in our hearts to turn away from sin, empowers us to love those around us, grows us more into the likeness of Jesus, assures us of our eternal inheritance as children of God, and works through us as we carry God’s hope and healing into the world.
John 14:16,17,26; 15:26-27; John 16:9-14; I Corinthians 12:13; I Corinthians 2:10-11; 3:16; 6:19; II Corinthians 3: 6; Galatians 5:22-26; Titus 3:5; Romans 8:9,12-13; Ephesians 6:11-18
Jesus is very much alive, having ascended into heaven after finishing his initial earthly mission. We eagerly look forward to the day he returns to establish his eternal kingdom, eliminate sin entirely, and wipe away every tear from every eye.
John 14:3; Acts 1:11; 1 Thessalonians 4:16; Hebrews 9:28; 1 John 3:2; Revelation 1:7
Written by men under the direct inspiration and guidance of the Holy Spirit, the Old and New Testaments are true in content, supreme in authority, and complete in sufficiency.
Psalm 19:7-11; 2 Timothy 3:16; 2 Peter 1:20-21
